PanchKarma Treatment
PanchKarma is a part of the purification therapies of Ayurveda. Panch means five and Karma means action so literally translated, it is a set of five systematic actions used for Purification of the Body. It is used to bring the aggravated Doshas imbalance in balance and to flush out the accumulated Ama toxins from the body using the normal modes of eleminations like intestines, sweat glands and the urinary tract. The logic being that as a cloth needs to be purified or cleaned of impurities and dust before it can be permeated with a new color, similarly the body needs to be purified before it can be permeated with new colors of youthfulness, health and vigor etc. In fact, most of the time, Panchakarma is an end in itself rather than a prelude to other therapeutic measures.Elimination is a natural body instinct but over a period of time and in cases of dosha imbalance these wastes are not effectively eliminated from the body. Thises wastes tend to stick into the minute channels of the body known as the Srotas and start producing disease. PanchKarma is consisted to be the most radical way to cleanse the body and thereby eliminate, once and for all the disease cauing doshas and the toxins.
The treatment consists of following steps : Pre-purification Measures for Panchakarma Before the actual operation of purification begins, there is a need to prepare the body in prescribed methods to encourage the release of toxins. The two procedures are Snehana and Swedana. Snehan (Oleation Therapy) Medicated oils and Ghee are used. According to Ayurveda the Ghee can travel between cells of body very easily. Once the Ghee reaches to fine space between cells, all the fat soluble impurities are dissolved in Ghee and finally the Ghee is thrown in to rectum by the body. The Ghee containing impurities is eliminated by Virechan (Purgation) Vaman.Virechan is obtained by electro-balanced purgatives, so the balance of electrolytes is maintained in body in spite of induced diarrhea.
Abhyangam (Massage)
Abhyangam is the oil massage. Oil is applied to the entire body with a particular type of massage which helps the toxins to move towards the gastro-intestinal tract. Oil massage also makes the superficial and deep tissues soft and supple, thus helping to remove stress and to nourish the nervous system. Snehana is given daily for three to seven days, as indicated. This is a special type of oil massage in which strokes are given according to the circulatory channels. This treatment is very useful for obesity, loss of skin texture, sleeplessness, fatigue, other vata predominant diseases etc.and Basically This is a Pre Operative(Purva Karma) Treatment For Panchakarma.
Swedan (Steam Bath)
Swedan is sudation or sweating and is given every day immediately following the Snehana. An herbal concoction may be added to the steam to further loosen the toxins from the individual. Swedana liquefies the toxins and increases the movement of toxins into the gastro-intestinal tract. The Steam of medicated water heops opening fine pores on skin allowing the natural excretion path and heat of steam dilates the blood vessels allowing more blood to pass through muscles which supplies more nourishment.

Raktamokshana:
Raktamokshana is made of two words - Rakta i.e blood and Mokshana i.e to leave, and combining both these words makes the word Raktamokshana which means to let out blood.
Raktamokshana is an effective blood purification therapy, in which carefully controlled removal of small quantities of blood is conducted to neutralize accumulated Pitta toxins of many blood borne diseases. This is because Raktamokshana decreases the quantum of enhanced Pitta dosha and thus the diseases caused by Pitta are also relieved.
Raktamokshana or the technique of bloodletting Ayurvedic treatment is mainly advised for Pitta dosha (fire body humor) and Rakta (blood tissue) imbalance and toxicity. This is highly effective in diseases like skin diseases, edema, abscess, inflammations, dullness, uremia and pericarditis. At Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre, we have found favorable result with Raktamokshana in Allergies, Skin disorders such as Eczema, Allergic Dermatitis, Tonsillitis and Sciatica.
